It is my right to stay informed. It is my right to vote. It is my right to hold my elected officials accountable. But as it is not a requirement, I have done none of these things.
My current profile would read along these lines…
Age Set: 18-24 yrs. old
Demographic: White, middle class, privileged American. Men hold doors open for me.
Education: Some college
Party: Left-leaning Independent. I can’t say that I know enough about either party to commit myself to one. But I do like things like universal health care and progressive environmental policies, so let’s assume for now that I lean left.
I’ll be looking at various aspects of this nation’s whole big confusing political sphere. No topic is too small. I realized only two days ago that I had never fully understood America’s electoral system. I realized yesterday that I probably never would.
I’ll be examining national history, partisan lines, media influence, why Obama’s dog was such a big deal, who we can trust if you can’t trust the government, differences between the HR and the senate, and will probably end up asking more questions than I feel I gain answers to.
Alongside this blog is another little project: journalism. The reclusive reader of Russian writers has decided to become worldly, ladies and gentlemen. Call it a social experiment, or a miserable attempt at self-improvement, or even a power trip. I’ll call it a deadline, and a measly, measly paycheck. (Did I mention how measly the paycheck was?)
Behold, my first bylines!
